Phnom Penh:Speaking at the 80th anniversary celebration of the University of Health Sciences, Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet emphasized the Royal Government's initiatives to promote responsible alcohol marketing and advertising as part of their strategy to safeguard public health and well-being.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Prime Minister outlined the government's comprehensive measures to regulate alcohol advertising and promotional activities. These measures include the replacement of approximately 6,000 billboards promoting alcoholic beverages, leaving only about 17 percent still in place.
Additionally, the Prime Minister announced a ban on promotional rewards offered through pull-tabs or ring tabs of alcoholic beverages and energy drinks. This decision is part of the Royal Government's intentional strategy to enhance consumer protection and public health.
Hun Manet also appealed to teachers and parents to prevent young children from consuming energy drinks, stressing the significance of health as a foundational element for human resource quality, labor productivity, and economic growth. He stated that investing in health is tantamount to investing in the nation's future.
The Royal Government has implemented various mechanisms, procedures, and legal standards and formed a dedicated working group to ensure responsible marketing and advertising of alcoholic products. These efforts aim to protect consumers while encouraging responsible business practices within the industry.
