Cambodia Intensifies Crackdown on Illicit Online Gambling and Cyber Scams

Phnom Penh:Cambodia's government is set to enforce a zero-tolerance policy against illegal online gambling and cyber scams, initiating multi-agency inspections of casinos nationwide starting this month.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a joint meeting was held by the Secretariat of the Commission for Combating Online Scams (CCOS) and the Commercial Gambling Management Commission of Cambodia (CGMC) to coordinate strategies across 16 provinces with licensed casinos. The meeting included senior officials from various ministries, police, immigration, and provincial authorities.

The primary goals outlined are to enforce a ban on online gambling within casino premises and to deploy task forces for inspections beginning in October 2026 to prevent illegal activities. Senior Minister Chhay Sinarith acknowledged international recognition for Cambodia's efforts against cyber scams, emphasizing that enforcement will not diminish.

H.E. Yeth Vinel of the CGMC announced that inspections will ensure casinos comply with licensing conditions, warning of sanctions and criminal charges for unauthorized online gambling. The CCOS Secretariat remains committed to international cooperation in combating cybercrime.
