Cambodia Allocates Nearly $500 Million to Mitigate Rising Fuel and Electricity Costs

Phnom Penh:Cambodia has invested nearly $500 million to alleviate the impact of increasing fuel and electricity prices, according to Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet. He highlighted the necessity for the Royal Government to remain vigilant in confronting challenges in various circumstances.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Prime Minister, speaking at the University of Health Science's 80th founding anniversary in Phnom Penh, noted that government measures have prevented a dramatic rise in fuel costs for consumers. He explained that without these efforts, fuel prices could have risen by 9 to 10 percent more than current levels.

The funds for these measures were sourced from state budget revenues collected through customs, demonstrating the government's commitment to using fiscal resources to safeguard the economy and the public from external disruptions.

The Prime Minister acknowledged that Cambodia is grappling with multiple challenges, including the Middle East crisis, border conflicts, and natural disasters like flooding. He urged for continued readiness for potential future adversities, emphasizing the need to prepare rather than react to crises as they occur.

Looking forward to 2027, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of continually evaluating global challenges to ensure Cambodia's preparedness for any adverse developments.
