Phnom penh: The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has lodged another strong protest against Thailand's continued violations of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a press release issued this morning by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation detailed that on August 22 and 24, Thai armed forces dispatched heavy machinery into Cambodian territory to construct an earthen trench in the Chouk Krous area of Thmor Daun village, Kork Morn commune, Banteay Ampil district, Oddar Meanchey province. This activity coincided with the unauthorised visit by the Prime Minister of Thailand to the An Seh area in Cambodia's Preah Vihear province on August 23.
The RGC strongly protested these activities, viewing them as clear violations of Cambodia's sovereignty and territorial integrity as defined and delimited by the 1:200,000-scale maps produced by the Commissions of Delimitation of the Boundary between Indo-China and Siam, Article 5 of the Memorandum of Understanding signed on June 14, 2000, and Item I on de-escalation measures of the Joint Statement of the 3rd Special Meeting of the General Border Committee on December 27, 2025.
Cambodia reiterated its non-acceptance of any boundary line or territorial claim unilaterally asserted by Thailand. It also emphasized that these activities would not affect the legal rights or position of the Kingdom of Cambodia regarding its international boundary.
The Royal Government demanded that Thailand cease such activities in the aforementioned areas and any other areas unlawfully occupied by Thai armed forces since last year. Cambodia believes that these measures are necessary to de-escalate the situation, foster mutual trust, facilitate the peaceful settlement of disputes, and restore peace, stability, and good-neighbourly relations along the Cambodia-Thailand border.
The Royal Government reaffirmed its commitment to resolving all boundary disputes with Thailand and its other neighbours exclusively through peaceful means and in accordance with international law and existing bilateral agreements. Cambodia reiterated its principled position that international borders must not be changed by force.
