Mekong Project Establishes Fish Conservation Community in Kampong Cham Province

Kampong cham: A community in Kampong Cham province has been selected to become a Community Fish Conservation Area, a target of the Mekong of the River project. The 'Roka Koy Community' is a potential site with the presence of important fish species that require urgent protection and conservation.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, a source from the Mekong of the River project stated on June 22, 2026, that community members participated in the process, alongside communities in other provinces. The community identified areas for monitoring endangered fish species and designated priority conservation areas. They then developed a one-year action plan to monitor, conserve, and protect fish conservation areas in their villages. The plan aims to engage in monitoring endangered fish species, protect safe habitats, tag juveniles and broodstock, and release endangered fish into the conservation areas of the target community.

It is also worth noting that this initiative is part of the project "Protection and Restoration of Fish Habitat Corridors (Connecting Areas) in the Mekong River".
