Comprehensive Framework Drafted to Boost Waterway Transport System


Phnom Penh: H.E. Dr. Aun Pornmoniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance, and Chairman of the Committee on Economic and Financial Policy, chaired a meeting here on Feb. 13 to review the draft ‘Framework for the Development and Management of River Ports in Cambodia’. The meeting, held at the Ministry of Economy and Finance, was attended by senior officials of relevant ministries and institutions.



According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the framework is prepared with the aim of promoting the implementation of the Law on Water Transport and the ‘Comprehensive Master Plan on Cambodia Intermodal Transport and Logistics System 2023-2033,’ the ministry said in a press release. It is designed to serve as a comprehensive roadmap for relevant ministries and institutions to prepare development and investment plans in the river transport sector more effectively and efficiently.



The ministry’s press release elaborated that the framework aims to expand and increase the use of the water transport system by improving water transport infrastructure, enhancing port service efficiency through the use of modern technology, and reducing logistics costs. This initiative is intended to contribute to the sustainability of Cambodia’s long-term economic growth while increasing regional and global competitiveness.



During the meeting, key points were discussed, and the working group was requested to further examine the use of terminology in some parts of the document to ensure consistency and comprehensiveness.
