Over 2,000 School Cooperatives Recorded Revenue Of RM430 Mln Last Year – Ewon

TANAH MERAH, A total 2,490 school cooperative movements nationwide recorded a revenue of RM430 million last year, said Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick.

He said the achievement of 2.07 million members of the school cooperatives is very heartening because it was not judged in terms of age or maturity but on efforts and commitment in achieving the cooperatives’ objectives and goals.

“The Malaysian Cooperatives Commission (SKM), as the monitoring body and agency related to cooperative development, has successfully regulated and guided school cooperatives.

“I am sure that with the unity between the ministry and SKM, the school cooperatives movement will be able to develop further and better,” he said when speaking at the Kelantan State Level Celebration of the National Cooperative Day (HKN) 2024 celebrations at the Tanah Merah Vocational College here today.

Elaborating further, Ewon said the ministry as well as SKM will continue to empower the cooperative movement at the
grassroots level as one of the vehicles for national economic development.

“We will spread the word to all school and local communities about the existence of school cooperatives, the main role they play in addition to educating the students about the principles and identity as members of the cooperatives.

“SKM will always help preserve cooperatives as effective contributors to the national economic development as well as create a conducive environment to be able to be competitive and ready in the economic market that is now increasingly challenging,’ he added.
