SIBU, The Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation (MOSTI) has launched a Creativity Room (RDC) in Sibu, to promote the values of Science, Technology, Innovation, and Economy (STIE) within the community, particularly in rural areas. The RDC is an initiative by MOSTI, implemented by Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM), designed to provide easier and closer access to Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) facilities and equipment for the community. MOSTI secretary-general Datuk Dr Aminuddin Hassim officiated the opening ceremony of RDC Sibu, at the Sibu Digital Innovation Hub (SDIH) at Lot 1251, Lorong Kuda 2, Kampung Nangka. 'The RDC Sibu, completed on Dec 6, 2023, is equipped with a range of STIE technology and equipment, including computers, 3D printing machines, digital studio sets, and other state-of-the-art facilities, for the benefit of the local community,' YIM said in a statement today. It also said that MOSTI aims to engage 300 participants from the Sibu area, in its efforts to enhance STIE through this science, technology, and innovation hub. As of last month, RDC Sibu has attracted over 500 visitors from the local community, with 203 participants having engaged in 21 training modules since its launch. Meanwhile, YIM has successfully established 17 RDCs across Malaysia, including three in Sabah and Johor, two each in Perak, Pahang, and Sarawak, and one each in Negeri Sembilan, Terengganu, Kelantan, Kedah, and Selangor. The public can obtain more information on class activities and upcoming programmes at RDC by visiting http://www.rdc.yim.my./ This initiative aims to cultivate entrepreneurs from B40 and rural areas, by focusing on high-impact innovation. Additionally, the community has opportunities to participate in innovation activities using existing technology, such as 3D printers, robotics, drones, and other practical equipment. These activities are designed to enhance quality of life, productivity, and the local economy, through marketable ideas and creativity. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
