The Kelantan Custom Rare Club is celebrating Maal Hijrah tomorrow with a tour of Peninsular Malaysia by a 50-member convoy of Honda C70 classic bikes, starting today until July 23.
Despite the majority of its members being 50 years old, the biking club is confident of successfully completing the 2,130-kilometre challenge across 13 states.
Speaking to Bernama, Custom Rare Kelantan president Syazwan Saupi said the participants of the “Program Jejak Semenanjung Malaysia” are between 31 and 62 years old and come from all walks of life, such as teachers, imams, bank officers and lorry drivers.
“The convoy will be flagged off from Masjid Al-Ismaili, Pasir Pekan and set out to Terengganu and Pahang.
“After covering the east coast, the convoy will ride towards the south to Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan. Then it will continue through Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Perak and head to the northern states right up to Perlis before returning to Kelantan,” he said.
Syazwan said one of the main aims of the programme was to foster brotherhood among biking enthusiasts as well as get to know the village communities along the way.
“The C70 bike is a symbolic choice as it was among the popular motorbikes in the olden days and we want to prove that it can still make long journeys like other modern bikes.
“Its smaller engine capacity also makes it safer as we cannot go faster than 90 km/hour,” he said, adding that the bikes will be inspected regularly throughout the convoy to ensure safety and comfort.
He said the “Program Jejak Semenanjung Malaysia” has obtained all the relevant permits and approvals from the police.
“The participants will also carry out charitable activities in the villages in the spirit of the Muharram month,” he said.
