ARAU, The Ministry of Higher Education (KPT) is setting up a comprehensive database to collect and list research and innovation produced by universities.
Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud said it would prevent the dumping of unutilised research but Instead, such academic research can be integrated into society and commercialised.
“We want the research carried out at universities to be classified according to clusters which can be applied for community use and commercialised. This is in line with the emphasis by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on this matter,” he told reporters after attending the ‘Talk to Us’ session at Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) here today.
Meanwhile, Mustapha said grants for lecturers will be strictly monitored to ensure their research meets universities’ and industry’s needs.
On a separate matter, Mustapha said KPT had disbursed RM10,000 assistance for each family of the three students from Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Dungun, Terengganu, who p
erished in an accident last night.
“We are deeply saddened by the incident. On behalf of the ministry we extend our condolences to the families of the three students. We are making arrangements for the funerals and will help provide counselling sessions for the families of the victims,” ??he said.
