Genius Model United Nations Conference 2023 (GMUN ’23) has managed to equip the delegates with pivotal critical thinking skills, leadership and speaking prowess, as well as a global mindset.
Pusat GENIUS@Pintar Negara (PGPN) Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) director Associate Prof Dr Rorlinda Yusof said through GMUN ‘23, the centre aimed to develop gifted world leaders and thinkers that are holistic and wholesome.
She said the centre aspired to encourage impactful change on a wider, global scale brought forth by all of the delegates.
“GMUN ’23 is one of the many ways our centre is attempting to realise this particular goal because it allowed delegates to engage themselves in meaningful and educational discussions on numerous global issues.
“On top of that, the solutions that all of you have debated on and proposed are what give your efforts and discussions meaning. To learn, lead, and inspire are what we aim and promise to be and serve as, for the Malaysian MUN (Model United Nations) community.
“Herein, I genuinely believe that we have reached our goal and are able to call this event a huge success, please give yourself a huge round of applause, delegates!” she said this when closing the three-day conference at the PGPN auditorium yesterday.
The GMUN ‘23 which was held on July 7, with the theme ‘Beyond Borders: Bridging the Divide’ is a competitive academic simulation where delegates will be introduced to diplomatic skills, international relations and the United Nations (UN) system.
The conference successfully gathered a total of 264 delegates from local institutions, organisations and clubs including 13 international participants.
The conference’s objectives were also to upskill students in public speaking, diplomacy, negotiation, policy-making, and leadership skill and students to think from a global and glocal perspective.
It is also to encourage the students to think of creative and critical solutions for the current real world.
