KUCHING, The Malaysia Day gathering at the Indoor Stadium of the Sri Aman Sports Complex, about 192 from Kuching City, today is the highlight of the celebration to commemorate the historic event in Sarawak. Sarawak Governor Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, accompanied by his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, graced the ceremony which was also attended by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, who represented Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg. Cultural performances by the local community, poetry recitations and entertainment performances were held at the gathering which attracted about 3,000 people. The Jalur Gemilang Merdeka convoy led by the Department of Information which was flagged off last Aug 3 also ended their journey at the venue of the gathering today, after passing through 22 locations from the Lawas district in the north of Sarawak to Lundu in the south of the state. Sri Aman is the focal point of today's Malaysia Day celebration in Sarawak, with various activities held since last Saturday, starting with the Interfaith Thanksgiving Ceremony at Dewan Suarah Sri Aman, followed by the 'Cinta Malaysia Segulai Sejalai' concert at Tebingan Sri Aman. Last night, a thanksgiving ceremony was held at Bandar Sri Aman Mosque and was attended by Sarawak State Assembly Speaker Tan Sri Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar. Source: BERNAMA News Agency
