Cambodian Red Cross Pledges Ninth Consecutive $1 Million to Kantha Bopha Hospitals

Phnom penh: The Cambodian Red Cross (CRC) has announced a significant contribution of US$1 million to the Kantha Bopha Children's Hospital. This marks the ninth consecutive year that the CRC has made such a donation, and it is the 15th time overall that the organization has supported the renowned pediatric institution.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the funds were presented by CRC President Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen at the CRC headquarters. The event was attended by notable figures including Health Minister H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra, Swiss Kantha Bopha Foundation Director General Dr. Denis Laurent, and Prof. Ky Santy, Director of the Phnom Penh hospital.

Health Minister H.E. Prof. Chheang Ra expressed profound gratitude for the CRC's continuous efforts in raising necessary resources, which are crucial for the hospital to continue offering free treatment to children. Over the past 33 years, the Kantha Bopha hospitals have provided care to approximately 27.5 million children. The hospital currently operates with more than 3,000 beds and employs over 3,000 staff members.

Operating costs for the two Kantha Bopha hospitals in Cambodia are estimated to be around US$45 million annually. In the first five months of 2026 alone, expenses have already reached US$16 million. Dr. Denis Laurent assured that the Swiss Kantha Bopha Foundation is committed to maintaining its financial support through 2027.

In her remarks, CRC President Samdech Kittiprittpundit Bun Rany Hun Sen highlighted the advancements in Cambodia's healthcare sector. She urged hospital leaders and medical staff to maintain high professional standards and deliver exceptional care. She also pledged that the CRC would continue to be a devoted supporter of the hospital's mission.
