Cambodia Facilitates ASEAN Observer Team Mission Along Thailand Border

Phnom Penh:The Cambodian Liaison Group facilitated an observation mission by the ASEAN Observer Team in Cambodia (AOT-KH) along the Cambodia-Thailand border. The mission was conducted to monitor, verify, and report on the situation at Stung Meteuk Bridge in Pursat province.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the mission took place at 815 a.m. at Stung Meteuk Bridge, located in Thmar Da commune, Veal Veng district. The bridge was previously subjected to an aerial attack by the Royal Thai Air Force on December 13, 2025, which resulted in extensive damage and the complete destruction of the structure, rendering it impassable.

The infrastructure is strictly intended for civilian use and is situated several dozen kilometers from the Cambodia-Thailand border. Cambodia has expressed its full support for the ASEAN Observer Team, emphasizing the necessity of enhancing its role in monitoring and verifying the ceasefire implementation and other measures agreed upon by Cambodia and Thailand. This is seen as crucial to ensuring the agreements are fully and effectively implemented while fostering transparency, accountability, and trust.

The Royal Government of Cambodia and the Ministry of National Defence reiterated their unwavering commitment to adhere to the Joint Statement of the Third Special Meeting of the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee and the Joint Declaration on the Peace Agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, among other relevant agreements. These commitments are part of efforts to facilitate rapid recovery, restore normalcy, and ensure lasting peace and stability in the region.
