Phnom penh: Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of the Kingdom of Cambodia, engaged in bilateral talks with H.E. Tran Thanh Man, Chairman of the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, on July 28 at the National Assembly House in Hanoi.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the two leaders discussed enhancing parliamentary diplomacy, promoting people-to-people exchanges, and expanding cooperation in various sectors, including trade, investment, healthcare, tourism, education, and technology. These efforts aim to advance people-centred development and the shared interests of both nations.
During the meeting, Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed gratitude to H.E. Tran Thanh Man and the Vietnamese leadership for their warm hospitality. She noted that her visit, the second since her appointment, reflects the close friendship and growing partnership between the two countries.
Samdech Khuon Sudary highlighted the traditional friendship between Cambodia and Viet Nam as a valuable asset that benefits both peoples while contributing to regional peace and stability. She stressed that close parliamentary cooperation embodies the shared spirit of solidarity, mutual benefits, and strengthened political trust.
Commending Viet Nam's progress in reform and international stature, she expressed confidence in Viet Nam's potential to become a developed, high-income nation by 2045. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening legislative and executive cooperation for mutual benefit.
They agreed to enhance parliamentary cooperation through various groups and commissions and support each other in regional and international forums. Recognising the importance of economic cooperation, they encouraged exchanges between SMEs to boost bilateral trade to US$20 billion.
Samdech Khuon Sudary proposed revising the 2022 Memorandum of Understanding and establishing healthcare cooperation. H.E. Tran Thanh Man welcomed these proposals, agreeing to have relevant parliamentary commissions prepare the revised Memorandum.
He welcomed the Cambodian delegation, affirming the deep political trust and special relationship between the countries. He also supported Cambodia's upcoming hosting of the 20th Francophonie Summit and praised Cambodia's socio-economic progress.
H.E. Tran Thanh Man emphasised connectivity through economic integration, transport networks, and people-to-people ties as key to sustainable development. Despite global uncertainties, he noted positive growth in bilateral trade and economic connectivity.
He stressed the importance of cooperation in national defence and security for regional stability. Samdech Khuon Sudary highlighted Cambodia's efforts to strengthen resilience and economic growth under Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet.
She encouraged greater Vietnamese investment and tourism in Cambodia and sought support for modernising Cambodia's National Assembly into a digital parliament. She reaffirmed Cambodia's commitment to regional cooperation against cybercrime and online fraud.
The leaders agreed that stronger parliamentary diplomacy would complement government cooperation, deepen mutual trust, and promote long-term development, connectivity, and prosperity for both nations, contributing to ASEAN unity and regional peace.
