ASEAN Para Games 2023: Cambodia Grabs 21 Medals Today

Cambodia bagged a total of 21 medals, of which 3 gold, 7 silver and 11 bronze from the 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023 in Phnom Penh.

Two of the three new gold medals were obtained in Powerlifting’s Men's Up to 107 kg and Men's Up 107kg (Total Lift) events, while the other one in High Jump T46 event.

According to the latest update of the Organising Committee, as of June 7, at 10:00 pm, Cambodia got in total 64 medals (9 gold, 19 silver and 36 bronze).

The number of medals obtained exceeded the plan set forth by the Cambodian para athletes for the ongoing 12th ASEAN Para Games, i.e. 56 medals: 8 gold, 21 silver and 27 bronze.

The host country now sits 8th on the Medal Table among the 11 participating countries, behind Singapore with 35 medals (10 gold, 14 silver and 11 bronze), but before Brunei Darussalam with 8 medals (3 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze).

Indonesia maintains its top place with 315 medals (128 gold, 118 silver and 69 bronze), followed by Thailand with 245 medals (96 gold, 87 silver and 62 bronze) and Vietnam with 187 medals (60 gold, 52 silver and 75 bronze).

Malaysia, the Philippines and Myanmar occupy the fourth, fifth and sixth places with 102 medals (42 gold, 35 silver and 25 bronze), 96 medals (27 gold, 30 silver and 39 bronze), and 50 medals (13 gold, 21 silver and 16 bronze), respectively.

Laos remains at the bottom of the list with 9 medals (1 silver and 8 bronze), preceded by Timor-Leste with 6 medals (2 gold and 4 bronze).

The 12th ASEAN Para Games 2023 was officially opened on June 3 under the motto “Sport: Live in Peace”.

To take place until June 9, the regional para games accommodates 14 sports including Athletics, Badminton, Boccia, Chess, 5-a-side Football, 7-a-side Football, Goalball, Judo, Powerlifting, Swimming, Table Tennis, Siting Volleyball, Wheelchairs Basketball, and E-sports (Demonstration) with 431 sports events at the Morodok Techo National Stadium, National Olympic Stadium and other courts in Phnom Penh capital.

At the 11th ASEAN Para Games in Solo, Indonesia in 2022, Cambodia grabbed 28 medals (7 gold, 10 silver, and 11 bronze).
