Phnom Penh:Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has announced that 70 countries have registered to participate in the 20th Francophonie Summit, marking Cambodia's first time hosting the event. Over 20 presidents and heads of state or government have confirmed their attendance.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, French President H.E. Emmanuel Macron will pay an official visit to Cambodia to personally attend the summit. The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of the event, noting an inauguration ceremony in Siem Reap with the presence of His Majesty the King, which he described as a great honor for Cambodia.
The summit is scheduled to take place from November 14 to 16, 2026. Prime Minister Hun Manet emphasized the historic nature of the event and encouraged Cambodians to feel proud of the country's ability to host such an international gathering.
However, the Prime Minister expressed disappointment over actions by overseas opposition members who reportedly urged the French President not to attend the summit. He lamented that some Cambodians are attempting to undermine the country's image rather than celebrating this national achievement.
