A total of 100,000 people have benefited from the Malaysian Social Innovation (MyIS) initiative from 2015 to date, said Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) Datuk Arthur Joseph Kurup.
He said it involved a total of 261 local innovative technology application projects across the country with a total of RM60.6 million in funding which included increasing productivity and income while creating new job opportunities and conserving the environment.
“Accordingly, MOSTI has allocated RM5.4 million for the year 2023 to intensify the MyIS initiative.
"The government is targeting to identify 5,000 volunteers, 5,000 social innovation projects to be developed and 500 innovation projects to be replicated and commercialised by the year 2030," he said while launching the three-day KIS 2023 (Social Innovation Convention) starting here today.
He said under MyIS, MOSTI through Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia (YIM) has run programmes such as MyIS Komuniti, MyIS Akar Umbi (MyIS Grassroots) and Social Technopreneurs Enrichment Programme to help the community improve their well-being through the application of technology and social innovation.
Arthur said that starting from 2015 until now, YIM has recorded more than 6,000 local innovators who are registered in InnoMap and they consist of academic, industry and community bodies, especially among the grassroots and the B40 group.
