The Ministry of Communications and Digital (KKD) held a Yasin recitation and tahlil ceremony in remembrance of the late statesman Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman at the National Mosque here tonight.
The ceremony was attended by Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil, KKD secretary-general Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and more than 50 ministry staff.
Also present were Dr Ismail's family members, including his eldest son, Tawfik Ismail.
The ceremony which began after the Maghrib prayers was led by the Grand Imam of the National Mosque, Ehsan Mohd Hosni.
Earlier today, the ‘Commemoration of Tun Dr Ismail Al-Haj: Pillar of National Unity’ event in conjunction with the National Month celebration was held at Dataran Merdeka from 9 am to 4 pm.
It was organised with the aim of educating the younger generation about Dr Ismail's contribution to developing the country.
Dr Ismail, who was the deputy to second Prime Minister Tun Abdul Razak Hussein from 1971 to 1973, was among the important figures who conceived the five principles of Rukun Negara when Malaysia faced its darkest episode on May 13, 1969.
