Workers in Informal Sector of Tourism to Receive Health Care Support from Government

The Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) has decided to provide health care scheme through the Health Equity Fund for individuals working in the informal sector of tourism in accordance with the regulations in force.

According to the RGC’s press release issued this afternoon, those workers are particularly women working in bars, nightclubs, karaoke, beer gardens, massage parlors and spas.

The RGC will bear the full cost, underlined the press release.

Based on the policy of “No one is left behind”, the RGC has set forth many social protection interventions in order to ensure income security, reduce economic and financial vulnerabilities in order to reduce and prevent to a maximum people from falling into poverty.

In this regard, all employers or business owners in the tourism businesses of the informal economy are required to prepare a list of their employees and send it to the capital-provincial or city/district/Khan administrations to verify the eligibility before applying to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) to register them to receive benefits under the Health Equity Fund package at public health facilities across the country.
