The United States had decided to resume US$18 million in assistance extended to Cambodia through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) that had been paused following this year's general election, according to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.

This is one of the outcomes of the Meeting between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet and H.E. Ms. Victoria Nuland, United States Acting Deputy Secretary of State on Sept. 22, 2023, on the sidelines of the General Debate of the 78th Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York.

The talks focused on ways to seek mesures to enhance blateral relations and cooperation to the next level.

The two sides discussed the issue of repatriating Cambodian nationals from the United States, with H.E. Nuland requesting faster procedures for recensing them in Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei responded that relevant Cambodian ministries and agencies would streamline the procedures, making them more smooth test, and effective.

Samdech Thipadei requested the United States to take care of Cambodia nationals to be repatriated, especially those with health issues.

H.E. Ms. Nutand said the United States had taken care of health issues and would do more to meet Samdech Thipadei's request.

The U.S. acting deputy secretary of state warmly welcomed Samdech Thipadei's visit to New York and congratulated him on his nomination as Prime Minister for the mandate of the Seventh Legislature of the National Assembly.

She also said that the United States welcomed the opportunity to enhance cooperation between the two countries by working closely with Samdech Thipadei and wished to see him and Cambodia succeed.
