Phnom Penh: In a significant step toward deepening cooperation in healthcare, H.E. PARK Jung-Wook, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the Kingdom of Cambodia, conducted a productive working visit to Preah Ang Duong Hospital in Phnom Penh on Mar. 20.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the ambassador was warmly welcomed by H.E. Associated Professor Lou Lykheang, Director of Preah Ang Duong Hospital and Advisor to the Ministry of Health, along with the hospital’s deputy directors, chief of the Administrative Office, chief of the Account Office, ENT Specialist, and head of the Technical Office. The visit underscored Korea’s ongoing commitment to supporting Cambodia’s healthcare development and fostering people-centered partnerships.
‘The Republic of Korea is proud to stand alongside Cambodia in its journey toward achieving universal healthcare access. By combining our resources and expertise, we can create sustainable solutions that improve the well-being of communities,’ said H.E. PARK Jung-Wook in his remarks. H.E. Ambassador also commended the dedication of Preah Ang Duong Hospital’s staff, noting its critical role as a leading public healthcare institution in Cambodia.
This visit builds on decades of bilateral collaboration, including Korea’s support through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and other development programmes. Past projects have ranged from hospital renovations to disease prevention campaigns, reflecting Korea’s holistic approach to health sector development.
The Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT) Centre at Preah Ang Duong Hospital was completed in 2022 with a grant of approximately US$8 million. Similarly, the ‘Cambodia-Korea Friendship Eye Centre’ was established at the same hospital in 2015 with support from the Government of the Republic of Korea through KOICA, funded by a US$5.5 million grant.
As a result of these initiatives, the number of patients visiting Preah Ang Duong Hospital has more than tripled compared to before the support. It is expected that the hospital will continue to make significant contributions to the development of ENT and ophthalmology in Cambodia.
