ALOR SETAR, The Kedah State Health Department (JKN) has ordered the immediate closure of a food outlet in Sungai Petani that went viral recently for selling maggot-infested salted egg. State Health director Dr Ismuni Bohari said the closure order was issued under Section 11 of the Food Act 1983. 'The Kedah JKN confirms receiving a complaint through the 'Penduduk Sungai Petani' Facebook page on Tuesday regarding the cleanliness of a food outlet and the discovery of maggots in salted egg sold at the premises. 'The complaint was verified with the complainant to confirm the incident, which has gone viral on social media,' he said in a statement today. Ismuni said the Kuala Muda District Health Office (PKD) conducted further investigations yesterday and found that the outlet had failed to comply with the food hygiene requirements under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 of the Food Act 1983. In addition to the closure order, the Kedah JKN issued a compound notice to the outlet under the Food Hygiene Regulatio ns 2009. He further said that a follow-up inspection would be conducted once the outlet owner complies with all cleaning directives and corrective actions required by the Kuala Muda PKD. 'The Kedah JKN will continue to monitor and ensure that food outlets adhere to the Food Regulations under the Food Act 1983 to prevent a recurrence of such incidents,' he said.
