Prime Minister Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen has reassured that Cambodia will host the 12th ASEAN Para Games with high responsibility.

While presiding over the graduation ceremony of nearly 6,000 students of the Royal University of Law and Economics at Koh Pich Convention and Exhibition Centre in Phnom Penh this morning, Samdech Techo Hun Sen said as the host, winning or losing is normal, but the big thing is the responsibility of hosting the games.

“The most important point for the host is to organise the games to ensure the unity of over 600 million people of ASEAN. We must take good care of the athletes of all ASEAN countries,” he stressed.

Samdech Techo Prime Minister explained that Cambodia’s responsible host the ASEAN Para Games 2023 is not only to fulfill its obligation as an ASEAN member, but also contributes to coordinating and strengthening the relations between the over 600 million ASEAN people as well as to boosting the sports sector in the ASEAN region.

Since the official opening of the 12th ASEAN Para Games on June 3, Cambodia clinched a total of 8 medals – 2 gold, 2 silver and 4 bronze – in Athletics, Wheelchair Basketball, Judo, and Swimming, according to the latest update of the Organising Committee.

Cambodia thus sits 8th among 11 participating countries on the Medal Table, before Timor-Lest with two medals (1 gold and 1 bronze), but behind Myanmar with 8 medals (2 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze).

Indonesia tops the list with 77 medals (32 gold, 27 silver and 18 bronze), followed by Vietnam with 54 medals (18 gold, 16 silver and 20 bronze) and Thailand with 48 medals (16 gold, 21 silver and 11 bronze).

The Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore occupy the fourth, fifth and sixth places with 36 medals (11 gold, 13 silver and 12 bronze), 22 medals (10 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze) and 11 medals (3 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze), respectively.

Brunei was ranked last with a silver medal, preceded by Laos with 5 medals (1 silver and 4 bronze).
