PEOPLE’S HOUSING FOUNDATION IN THE OFFING IN SARAWAK

A foundation will be set up to build houses for the less fortunate in the Nangka state constituency, said its assemblyman Datuk Dr Annuar Rapaee.

The proposed Yayasan Perumahan Rakyat, which is awaiting government approval, would cooperate with the private sector and the community in implementing its projects, he said.

“This idea came about following discussions with several of my friends. Construction of the houses will depend on donations from the private sector and the community, either in cash or kind,” said Dr Annuar, who is state Education, Innovation and Talent Development Deputy Minister.

He told reporters this today after handing over new house keys to two families in Kampung Seduan Jaya near here under the Nangka Jiwa Murni programme implemented by the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) at a cost of RM170,000.

“There are strict criteria for approving applications because construction will depend on the donations received,” he said.

The houses will be built under the Jiwa Murni programme, and the Sarawak JBPM and Malaysian Armed Forces will be invited as implementing partners.

He said the foundation could speed up the process of providing houses to the needy as applications under the Very Poor People’s Housing Programme (PPRT) had to go through many processes.

Meanwhile, Sarawak JBPM director Datuk Khirudin Drahman@Hussaini said the department was willing to be an implementing partner of the foundation.

“We are ready to join in whatever initiatives that will benefit the community,” he said.
