OCM Welcomes Decision To Host 2027 SEA Games

KUALA LUMPUR, The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) welcomed the decision to host the 2027 South East Asian (SEA) Games in Malaysia, viewing it as a pivotal opportunity to rejuvenate the national sports industry.

In a statement, OCM highlighted that hosting the biennial Games for the seventh time will bring substantial benefits across the political, economic, and sporting sectors, creating a positive impact throughout the country.

“As the custodian of multi-sports games in Malaysia, OCM expresses its deep appreciation to the Malaysian Government for agreeing to host the 2027 edition.

“This decision underscores Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to promoting sports and fostering regional cooperation,” the statement said.

Malaysia’s track record of successfully hosting the SEA Games, previously known as the South East Asian Peninsular (SEAP) Games, includes the editions in 1965, 1971, 1977, 1989, 2001, and 2017.

In its most recent hosting, Malaysia emerged as the overall champions, securing an impressive me
dal haul of 145 gold, 92 silver, and 86 bronze.

The SEA Games Federation (SEAGF) unanimously awarded Malaysia, through OCM as the National Olympic Committee (NOC), the right to host the 2027 SEA Games in 2022.

This decision aligns with the upcoming hosting by Thailand and Singapore in 2025 and 2029, respectively.
