NOCC to Request for Inclusion of Traditional Sports into the 5th Asian Youth GamesNew KBO season to open March 23

The National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC) will request the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) to include Cambodian traditional sports in the 5th Asian Youth Games to be hosted by Cambodia in 2029. The intention was shared by its NOCC Secretary General H.E. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports, in his recent interview with AKP. The Asian Youth Games 2029 will consist of 20 kinds of sports, including Olympic sports, and Cambodia will propose Kun Khmer, Lbokator, and Ok Chaktrang (chess) to be included in the games, he said. He added that NOCC President Senior Minister H.E. Thong Khon will prepare a strategic plan for a successful host of the games and encouraged the national sports federations to further develop the capacity of young athletes aged 12, 13, and 14 years old, as they will be 17, 18, and 19 years old by 2029. The age limitation is determined by OCA, and the host must respect the guidelines and techniques to carry out its tasks smoothly, emphasis ed the committee's secretary general. The Royal Government of Cambodia is committed to hosting the 5th Asian Youth Games and the Asian Para Youth Games successfully, and the Cambodian para athletes will also be trained hard for the games. Cambodia was authorised by the OCA to host the forthcoming games following a decision at the OCA's 40th General Assembly in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, on Nov. 21, 2021. The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) announced its 2024 regular season schedule on Wednesday. All 10 clubs will be in action to start the 144-game season on March 23, eight days ahead of the 2023 schedule, and the goal is to crown the Korean Series champions before the end of October. South Korea is scheduled to compete in the World Baseball Softball Confederation Premier12 in November. With midseason weather disruptions, the Korean Series in 2023 ended on Nov. 13. The 2019 season also began on March 23 to account for the Premier12 that November. The top five teams from the 2023 season will host the opening series in 2024. The reigning champions LG Twins will host the Hanwha Eagles at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul. Other matchups are: the Lotte Giants visiting the SSG Landers in Incheon, just west of Seoul; the KT Wiz hosting th e Samsung Lions in Suwon, about 30 kilometers south of the capital; the Kia Tigers hosting the Kiwoom Heroes in Gwangju, some 270 kilometers south of Seoul, and the NC Dinos hosting the Doosan Bears in Changwon, about 300 kilometers southeast of Seoul. Though the Bears were a top-five team last year, they share Jamsil with the Twins and were forced to start the new season on the road instead. Teams will each play the first 134 games through Aug. 29 and will play all remaining games and makeup games in September.
