German experts are training 20 more members of the Cambodian conservation team of ancient temples to advance their skills for the work, according to a news release issued by the APSARA National Authority on July 19.

The technical experts were brought in to run the training by the German international cooperation organisation GIZ.

The second cohort of conservation teams from the APSARA National Authority has been part of the training for more than a year.

One of the trainers, Ms. Helen Jacobsen, a German teacher, shared that her session focused on water-based and chemical cleaning and enhancing the quality of ancient stones.

The ancient stone conservation training has so far covered seven of its 13 programmes and is expected to be completed by mid-2024.

The technical officer of the Department of Conservation of Monuments and Preventive Archaeology of the APSARA National Authority, Mr. Rik Reth noted that the training is crucial for the conservation of Cambodia's ancient temples.

The first cohort of the training supported by GIZ was organised in 2013, and the trainees have significantly improved their service.
