Phnom penh: The Ministry of Justice of Cambodia and the United Nations Resident Coordinator have engaged in a significant dialogue aimed at enhancing cooperation within the legal and judicial sectors.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting took place between H.E. Koeut Rith, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, and H.E. Ms. Vladanka Andreeva, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Cambodia, at the Ministry. The discussions centered around collaborative efforts involving various UN agencies such as OHCHR, UNICEF, UNDP, and UNODC.
The primary focus of the dialogue was on critical areas including juvenile justice, prison overcrowding, anti-drug initiatives, and the fight against technology-based scams. The meeting also addressed the challenges faced by communities along the Cambodian-Thai border, which have significantly affected local livelihoods.
H.E. Koeut Rith conveyed his appreciation for the continued support from UN agencies, acknowledging their collaboration with the Royal Government of Cambodia, particularly in relation to the Ministry of Justice. He stressed the importance of support and participation from partners in overcoming the challenges faced.
H.E. Ms. Vladanka Andreeva expressed her enthusiasm about her new role as the UN Resident Coordinator in Cambodia. She committed to maintaining extensive cooperation with the Ministry to tackle the discussed issues. Furthermore, she assured that her team would investigate opportunities to support displaced persons through relevant UN agencies.
