Military Cadets Set Sail on Training Cruise to Japan and Guam.


Changwon: Trainee officers from military academies will embark on a two-nation training cruise Monday to enhance their understanding of the regional security environment, the Navy said. Some 700 Army, Navy, Air Force, and nursing academy cadets were set to depart from a naval base in Changwon, 296 kilometers southeast of Seoul, to take part in the 20-day program that will take them to Yokosuka, Japan, and Guam, according to the Navy.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the cadets will visit major military bases, including the U.S. 7th Fleet in Yokosuka and other rear bases of the U.N. Command, aboard the ROKS Marado and ROKS Cheon Ja Bong landing ships, and the ROKS Daecheong combat support ship. During the voyage, they will also take part in maritime combat drills and observe various naval training exercises, such as gun firing and helicopter landings and takeoffs, it said.
