The Melaka Information Department (JaPen) has lined up four main programmes in conjunction with this year’s National Month celebration to fuel the spirit of patriotism in the community.
Its director, Shahrom Ravin Daram Abdullah said the celebration will begin with the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang 2023 (KMJG2023) convoy on Sunday (July 30) at the Sungai Rambai Rest and Service (R&R) area in Jasin at 4 pm.
“The KMJG2023 Convoy from Johor will pass the baton at the checkpoint on Sunday for the Melaka team to continue the journey to Negeri Sembilan on Monday. The convoy involves 66 participants and 40 vehicles with the former number symbolising the country's 66 years of independence.
“The convoy from Melaka will cover three districts in the state en route to Dataran Kampung Tengah, in Gemencheh, Negeri Sembilan while carrying out activities to distribute as well as fly the Jalur Gemilang in Pantai Puteri, Melaka Tengah and Dataran Keris, Alor Gajah," he said when contacted by Bernama today.
Shahrom said the Melaka JaPen will also hold the 2023 state-level Sketsa Rukun Negara competition involving 46 secondary schools under JaPen’s Malaysiaku Club.
He said short sketches with the title 'Rukun Negara' were among efforts to nurture the current generation to appreciate the true meaning of Rukun Negara in a relaxed way.
“The clubs involved will submit short videos before six clubs move into the final in mid-August,” he said.
Shahrom said JaPen is also holding the Semarak Gemilang programme that involves the local community flying the Jalur Gemilang in focal areas and, thus, spur others to fly the national flag in their premises.
He said this programme aims to help foster the spirit of unity among the people to celebrate the National Month and Malaysia Day and is scheduled to be implemented in four state constituencies, namely Merlimau, Taboh Naning, Ayer Molek and Kota Laksamana.
The Melaka JaPen will also implement small-scale patriotic programmes in all 28 state constituencies through the department’s existing face-to-face programmes such as the Jalinan Insan Wahana Aspirasi (JIWA) and Info On Wheels (IOW) Merdeka programmes.
“Although on a small scale, JaPen will endeavour to ensure each of these constituencies will have representatives in the MADANI Community, who will serve to mobilise the community in their respective places," he added.
