The 2024 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road was held in China’s Sichuan southwestern province, lauding the media’s important role in transmitting information, boosting mutual trust, and creating a favourable public sentiment for promoting the high-quality Belt and Road Cooperation.
People’s Daily, in collaboration with the CPC Sichuan Provincial Committee and People’s Government of Sichuan Province, hosted the 2024 Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road aimed to thoroughly implement the joint construction and promote the high-quality Belt and Road Cooperation.
Themed ‘Enhance Media Cooperation for Common Development,’ the forum focuses on the role of media in fostering consensus and gathers collective strengths to promote high-quality Belt and Road Cooperation. It is also a platform for media from all countries to discuss and share to promote BRI with common interest of shared future for mankind.
More than 200 media delegates from China and 75 foreign countries, including Cambodia, participated in
the forum held from Aug. 28 to Sept. 3, 2024.
The opening ceremony was held on Wednesday under the presidency of H.E. Li Shulei, a Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Head of the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee
Key speakers from China’s government officials, institutions and enterprises, heads of Chinese news houses and foreign media delegations delivered key notes, sharing insights of BRI and the role of media as window to provide information of win-win cooperation.
Mr. Tuo Zhen, President of People’s Daily, said that as the BRI enters into the new decade, the media cooperation is an important role in promoting the understanding, information, and materials of BRI cooperation to benefit people in the region and in the world.

The week-long forum features parallel sessions on Belt and Road Regional Cooperation, Media Cooperation Dialogue, Silk Road Culture Development, the 3rd council meeting of the Belt and Road News Network, media workshop and exhibition of achievements in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative.
Besides the forum, Chinese and foreign media delegates will visit various regions in Sichuan, including the Sichuan International Communication Centre, Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, and Chengdu Jinsha Site Museum.
Through dialogue, exchange, and on-site visits, media delegates will explore key projects under BRI and important engineering projects in Sichuan, documents and achievements and experiences of BRI, deepen people-to-people exchange and cooperation, fully demonstrate Sichuan’s unique advantages and open image to the international community, and promote Sichuan’s deep integration into the overa
ll BRI framework.
In 2013, Chinese President H.E. Xi Jinping proposed the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Over the past 11 years, BRI has evolved from ideas into actions and from a vision into reality.
As the official newspaper of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, People’s Daily has organised seven Media Cooperation Forum on Belt and Road since 2014.
These forums have provided a high-end dialogue and communication platform for media, enterprises, and institutions from Belt and Road partner countries. Media from all countries have fully played their role, shared insights, formulated strategies, addressed challenges, and promoted common development at the forums.
