Mahkota Polls: Tengku Zafrul Confident Early Voting Will Favour BN

KLUANG, UMNO Supreme Council member Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz is confident that early voting for the Mahkota state by-election will favour Barisan Nasional (BN).

The Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry said this is because BN is fielding a candidate with the quality, credibility and experience to serve the constituents.

“From the quality of the candidate, (if) we look at it in terms of (being) winnable, I am optimistic he can get the early votes,’ he told reporters after a walkabout in conjunction with the by-election in Kampung Melayu Dua here today.

BN candidate Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah is the Kluang UMNO youth chief and a member of the Kluang Municipal Council Seri Impian Zone, in addition to being active in various youth activities and volunteering through non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

A total of 4,510 military personnel and their spouses, as well as 401 policemen, will cast their ballots from 8 am to 5 pm tomorrow as early voters in the Mahkota state by-election.

They will vote at the Dewan Mahkota at Kem Mahkota, Dewan Pengaman Zamrud Taman Perumahan Polis Ibu Pejabat Polis Daerah (IPD) Kluang and Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Sultan Sir Ibrahim.

The Mahkota by-election, with polling on Saturday (Sept 28), will see a straight fight between Syed Hussien and Mohamad Haizan Jaafar of Perikatan Nasional.

The by-election is being held following the death of the incumbent assemblyman, Datuk Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.
