Long-tailed Macaque Found in Cambodian Forests

Long-tailed Macaque (Macaca fascicularis) listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) red list of threatened species has been discovered in Cambodia forests, according to the Ministry of Environment.

The animal was spotted in Cambodian forests through camera traps, the same source added.

The long-tailed macaque – referred to as the cynomolgus monkey in laboratories – is a cercopithecine primate native to Southeast Asia.

It can be identified by the length of its tail, the shape of the muzzle, and its colour – which is generally grey-brown or reddish-brown.

Long-tailed Macaques are present in almost all Cambodian forests, except the flooded forests around the Tonle Sap Lake. They live in group, from 5-6 up to 40.
