LAT HOUSE GALLERY: ENTRANCE FEE WILL BE AFFORDABLE – PERAK MUSEUMS BOARD DIRECTOR

The entrance fee for Lat's House Gallery, where Seniman Diraja (Royal Artist) Datuk Mohd Nor Khalid's works are displayed, is pending approval from the board of directors of the Perak State Museum Board says Perak State Museum Board director Mohamad Amir Mohd Dahalan.

He said, however, visitors could still enter the gallery for free until the fee was finalised, expected to be sometime later this month.

"We have already proposed the entrance fee, but it will only be decided by the board of directors of the Perak State Museum Board in a meeting this month.

“We assure you that the fee will be affordable and not burdensome,” he said when contacted by Bernama.

According to Mohamad Amir, the Lat House Gallery which was officially opened on July 8 by the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah and Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Zara Salim, had so far attracted over 30,000 visitors.

"We have had visitors from Singapore and Japan who wish to experience the ‘Rumah Bumbung Lima’ or ‘Rumah Limas’ showcasing the life and career of Seniman Diraja Datuk Mohd Nor Khalid, who’s better known as ‘Lat’," he said.

The decision not to impose an entrance fee prior to this was made as a gesture of appreciation to Lat and to celebrate his fans, including cartoon enthusiasts, Mohamad Amir added.

Previously, Lat had expressed his hope that the gallery entrance fee would be reasonable and affordable for everyone.

The gallery on Jalan Bemban near Batu Gajah, built on a 0.0412-hectare plot, showcases all of Lat's artworks from his career as a cartoonist since 1962.

The gallery is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm, and closed on Mondays.
