KOICA Cambodia Hosts 2022 Volunteers’ Annual Meeting

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Cambodia Office hosted its three-day volunteers’ annual meeting at Anik Palace Hotel in Phnom Penh last week.

It is the first volunteers’ gathering after the dispatch of volunteers was resumed in December 2021. The event was presided by Mr. Rho Hyun-Jun, Country Director of KOICA Cambodia Office and Mr. Kim Kwang Wook, Deputy Country Director with the participation from the KOICA’s staffs, volunteers.

According to a KOICA’s press release AKP received this afternoon, the meeting, held from Oct. 5-7, firstly aims to provide the training on various topics including project management and Khmer language and to evaluate the performance and activities of the volunteers who are working at each host organisation. Secondly, it allowed the volunteers to present their achievement after dispatching. Lastly, it aims to strengthen the relationship between volunteers, office and other agency volunteers.

During the meeting, it added, the volunteers could share their best practices, experiences from their individual host organisation. As a result, this would be the lesson learnt for other volunteers to improve their activities and the way forwards.

After the programme’s resumption in December 2021 thanks to the control of COVID-19 in Cambodia, there are currently 34 active KOICA volunteers across the Kingdom, including Banteay Meanchey, Battambang, Siem Reap, Pursat, Kampong Cham, Kampong Chhnang, Kandal, Takeo, Prey Veng, Kampot and Phnom Penh on fields ranging from Korean language education, youth development, nursing, early childhood, music and computer education, the source pointed out.

The KOICA has dispatched professional Korean volunteers to Cambodia to share their expertise, knowledge and experiences in order to improve the quality of life of the country and strengthen partnership and mutual understanding since 2003. As of October 2022, KOICA has dispatched 802 volunteers to Cambodia. The volunteers have been performed their activities with at least 25 ministries and its subnational across the country on various fields.
