Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated on Sunday that it is essential for Iran to "compel" the United States to uphold its commitment to the peace memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the two nations. The remarks were made on the social media platform X, emphasizing the unanimous support from Iran's Supreme National Security Council for the MoU.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Pezeshkian expressed that the MoU is anticipated to become a central element of Iran's foreign relations strategy moving forward. He stressed the importance of ensuring that the United States adheres to the terms of the agreement, as it is believed to enhance the security of Iran, the region, and its allies.

The MoU, signed on June 18, was intended to facilitate negotiations between Iran and the United States within a 60-day timeframe to reach a conclusive agreement. However, the progression of these talks remains uncertain amid recent escalations between the two countries.

Last month, the U.S. military carried out several strikes against Iranian targets, citing them as responses to Iranian actions in the Strait of Hormuz and efforts to diminish Iran's threat to commercial shipping. In retaliation, Iran launched missile and drone attacks targeting U.S. military bases and facilities in the region.
