Hanoi: The Vietnam Fatherland Front (VFF) Committee of Hanoi recently engaged in talks with the Lao Front for National Construction (LFNC) Committee of Vientiane, culminating in an agreement to bolster their cooperation through a newly signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) covering the period from 2026 to 2030. The discussions, held on August 24, aimed at reinforcing the longstanding friendship, unique solidarity, and comprehensive collaboration between the two capitals.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting served as an opportunity for both sides to exchange insights and experiences in Front affairs, thereby contributing to the overall Vietnam-Laos relationship. Bui Huyen Mai, President of the VFF Committee of Hanoi, welcomed the Vientiane delegation and expressed condolences over the recent passing of Xaysomphone Phomvihane, President of the Lao National Assembly, acknowledging his role in fostering Vietnam-Laos relations.
During the talks, officials from both Hanoi and Vientiane briefed each other on their socio-economic development and Front activities. They also discussed methods for mobilizing communities, enhancing national solidarity, ensuring social welfare, and increasing the effectiveness of their respective Front committees. Phongsavanh Siliphane, Chairman of the LFNC Committee of Vientiane, highlighted the positive outcomes of their cooperation from 2023 to 2025, noting its contribution to the relationship between the two Parties and States and to the Hanoi-Vientiane connection.
The leaders emphasized the importance of ongoing support and experience sharing, particularly in areas like social welfare, education, and people-to-people exchanges. Looking forward, Mai suggested maintaining exchanges of leaders and professional staff, enhancing information and experience sharing, and focusing on areas like social supervision, public communications, and digital transformation.
The MoU signed after the talks outlines key areas for collaboration, including public communications, education on the Vietnam-Laos special friendship, digital media utilization, and annual high-level exchanges. Both sides agreed to enhance people-to-people diplomacy, cultural exchanges, and jointly host significant political and diplomatic events, especially during the Vietnam-Laos Year of Solidarity and Friendship in 2027.
