Cambodia’s Rainy Season Predicted to End in October

Amman:Cambodia's rainy season is projected to conclude in the third week of October as the weather transitions from the southwest monsoon to the northeast monsoon.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology issued a notice on October 10 indicating that changes in sea surface temperatures in the western Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean, and equatorial regions suggest a shift in atmospheric pressure systems, monsoon winds, and rainfall patterns towards the dry season.

With the diminishing influence of the southwest monsoon and the onset of the northeast monsoon, a gradual decrease in rainfall is anticipated. The Ministry highlighted that the El Niño phenomenon is expected to persist at a 100 percent probability through February 2027, with the northeast monsoon bringing relatively low rainfall.

Despite the transition to drier conditions, occurrences of thunderstorms, lightning, strong winds, and other weather phenomena may still affect some areas of Cambodia. The Ministry urged the public to use water efficiently and support efforts to conserve water resources in anticipation of the dry season. It also committed to ongoing monitoring of weather and climate conditions, promising updates if significant changes occur.
