Cambodian PM Rejects Foreign Electric Taxi Reports

Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has denied reports that the government has allowed Vietnamese or Chinese electric taxi companies to operate in Cambodia.

In a nearly three-minute voice message this evening, the Premier said that he had just received information from a reliable source that a small group of people were mobilising motorcycle taxi and three-wheeler taxi drivers to protest against the government, accusing the government of allowing Vietnamese or Chinese electric taxi companies to operate in Cambodia.

Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet added that he had already clarified this issue many times by clearly stating that the Royal Government had never issued licence for electric taxi companies neither from Vietnam nor from other countries to do business in Cambodia, and the Kingdom does not yet need foreign companies to invest in electric taxi in the country.

The Prime Minister also reaffirmed the 7th-mandate Royal Government’s attention to improve the living standard of those
in the informal economy, including motorcycle taxi and three-wheeler taxi drivers.

Besides, Samdech Thipadei warned to take legal action against those who created the false information, and called on motorcycle and three-wheeler taxi drivers not to believe in the incitement of this small group of people.
