Cambodian PM Reiterates Concern over Myanmar’s Conflicts

Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, has once again expressed his concern over the ongoing conflicts in Myanmar.

“The situation in Myanmar is getting worse from one day to another. Previously, the 5-point consensus (5PC) was aimed to prevent violence, […] but now we need to prevent the spread of civil war,” he said while presiding over the inauguration ceremony of Bakheng Water Treatment Plant, the biggest plant in Cambodia, at Phnom Penh’s Khan Chroy Changvar this morning.

Samdech Techo Hun Sen added that he always raised this concern during ASEAN Summits.

As one of the ASEAN nations, Cambodia always supports any initiatives to end the violence and conflicts in Myanmar since the coup d'état on Feb. 1, 2021.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Prak Sokhonn, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has been attending the informal discussion on Myanmar, held in Thailand on June 18-19, 2023 at the invitation of H.E. Don Pramudwinai, care-taker Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand.

This face-to-face exchange will contribute to deciphering ways to follow up to suggestions made by some leaders at the 42nd ASEAN Summit in May 2023, and further advance the implementation of the 5PC and the 15-point ASEAN Leaders’ Review and Decision on the Implementation of the 5PC.
