Cambodia has gained support from the French President H.E. Emmanuel Macron to host the Francophonie Summit in 2026, Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet told his compatriots residing, working and studying in Europe, at a get-together with them in Paris in the evening of Jan. 14 (Paris time). 'There is a good news for Cambodia. In 2026, we are going to host the Francophonie Summit. We are now submitting our application, and French President H.E. Macron has given his initial support. This is our pride as a Francophone country in Southeast Asia. There are not many Francophon nations [in Southeast Asia], just Laos, Vietnam, and Cambodia and the latter remains an active one,' the Cambodian Premier stressed. Besides, he laid stress on Cambodia's need to continue to expand security, diplomatic and cultural ties, as well as other areas, aimed at promoting opportunities for relations between countries. France has expressed its support and encouragement for Cambodia to host the Francophonie Summit in 2026, during the meetings between His Majesty Preah Bat Samdech Preah Boromneath NORODOM Sihamoni, King of Cambodia and the French President H.E. Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée Presidential Palace in Paris on Nov. 13, 2023, and between Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and French Ambassador to Cambodia H.E. Jacques Pellet at the Peace Palace in Phnom Penh on Dec. 20, 2023. The Francophonie Summit is the highest authority in the Francophonie. It is held every two years and gathers the heads of State/Governments of all member states.
