Cambodian Jiu-Jitsu Athlete Claims Silver at 2026 FISU World University Championships

Cambodia: Jiu-Jitsu male athlete Moeun Lim Sopanha clinched a silver medal at the 2026 FISU World University Championships in Brasilia, Brazil, on June 11.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the Cambodian standout athlete advanced to the runner-up position in the -77kg category after defeating a German competitor by submission in just 1 minute and 20 seconds. In his subsequent match, the 21-year-old athlete showcased his prowess again by employing the same special technique to defeat a Thai competitor in 3 minutes and 36 seconds.

However, in the gold medal final, Panha fell to the host Brazil, losing on points and thus securing the silver medal. Despite falling short of his gold medal ambition, Moeun Lim Sopanha expressed his commitment to learning from the experience and vowed to come back stronger for future competitions.

The Cambodia Jiu-Jitsu Federation extended their congratulations for his outstanding performance and the well-deserved world championship silver medal, which brought pride to the motherland. Looking ahead, the international competition season continues as Sopanha is set to represent Cambodia again next month in major tournaments in Japan and Kazakhstan.
