Cambodian and Vietnamese Chambers of Commerce Strengthen Bilateral Investment Cooperation

Hanoi: The Cambodian Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), organised the Cambodia-Vietnam Trade Meeting on June 8 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The event coincided with the official visit of Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet, Prime Minister of Cambodia, to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and his participation in the 3rd ASEAN Future Forum in Hanoi.

According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, the meeting brought together business leaders, investors, and representatives of leading enterprises from both countries to explore investment opportunities and expand strategic business partnerships. Oknha Kith Meng, President of the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the ASEAN Business Advisory Council for Cambodia, emphasized that the diplomatic relations between Cambodia and Vietnam, established in 1967, have been instrumental in strengthening economic cooperation and transforming the two countries into increasingly significant economic partners.

He highlighted that Vietnam remains Cambodia's leading trading partner within ASEAN, and both governments have set a target of achieving a US$20 billion bilateral trade volume. Oknha Kith Meng expressed confidence that this ambitious goal can be reached in the near future through close cooperation and joint economic development. He urged both governments to facilitate cross-border trade procedures and upgrade all border checkpoints to international standards.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, congratulated both sides on their robust business ties and expressed confidence in the strong potential for further cooperation across multiple sectors. He emphasized the longstanding cooperation between VCCI and the Cambodian Chamber of Commerce, describing it as a crucial bridge connecting the business communities of the two nations.

Furthermore, Mr. Nguyen outlined three priority areas for future cooperation: enhancing market connectivity to reach Vietnam's more than 100 million consumers, developing joint value chains, and organising joint training programmes to strengthen the capacity of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Business-to-business meetings held during the event allowed entrepreneurs and investors from both countries to engage directly and discuss opportunities in key sectors.

Both sides agreed to maintain close relations and encourage active participation of the private sectors of Cambodia and Vietnam.
