Cambodia, Uganda to Promote Bilateral Cooperation

Cambodia and Uganda - a landlocked nation in East Africa - will promote their bilateral relations and cooperation, according to a news release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation. The commitment was made known here on Feb. 6 when H.E. Chum Sounry, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and visiting H.E. Okello Henry Oryem, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, had an exchange of views and discussion on the promotion of the relations in both bilateral and multilateral frameworks between the two countries. In the meeting, H.E. Chum Sounry and H.E. Okello Henry Oryem, who is paying a visit to Cambodia from Feb. 4 to 7 with an aim to promote relations with the Kingdom, shared the view that both sides should consider working toward signing some bilateral documents, including a Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Consultations between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs to serve as a platform in exploring ways and means to foster cooperation between both nations. The two senior diplomats also shared the commitment to deepen cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and tourism as well as to push for the direct interactions between the two countries' Chamber of Commerce. Both sides took the opportunity to discuss the cooperation on the international arenas. At the same time, H.E. Chum Sounry expressed deep appreciation for Uganda's successful hosting of the 3rd G77 Summit and the 19th Summit of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) recently held in Kampala and assured his guest that Cambodia, as a founding member of NAM, stands ready to offer full support and cooperation so that Uganda can carry out successfully its noble mission as Chair of NAM from 2024 to 2027. Uganda bordered to the east by Kenya, north by South Sudan, west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the south-west by Rwanda, and the south by Tanzania. Uganda is in the African Great Lakes region, lies within the Nile basin, and has a varied but generally modified equatorial climate. As of 2023, it has a population of around 49.6 million, of which 8.5 million live in the capital and largest city of Kampala. Source: Agence Kampuchea Presse
