Cambodia: Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei Hun Manet has shared the Kingdom’s strong commitment to the One Health Approach amid global challenges. Addressing a panel discussion on ‘Communicable Diseases,’ at the One Health Summit 2026 in Lyon, France on April 7, Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet said Cambodia’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic has emerged as a notable example of effective crisis management among under-resourced countries, drawing international recognition for its transition from strict containment measures to a successful high-vaccination recovery phase.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, building on this experience, Cambodia is now positioning itself as an active contributor to the global One Health movement-an integrated approach that recognises the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health. Cambodia has addressed one health risk through surveillance and community engagement across multi-stakeholders, monitored wild bird migration and ecosystems, and advanced biosecurity and risk-based approaches to animal health while improving infrastructure surveillance in markets and logistics.
At the same time, Samdech Thipadei said Cambodia remains committed to the WHO’s pandemic agreement and its AMR surveillance systems, and environmental initiatives like Global Plastic Action Partnership, as well as other important initiatives under the ASEAN Frameworks. As Cambodia is one of the participants of the One Health Summit 2026, Samdech Thipadei said this gathering provides a platform to reshape traditional approaches toward a One Health culture, a systemic, integrated, and unifying approach to safeguard human, animal, and environmental ecosystems.
