Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Armies Complete Disaster Rescue Exercise

The Cambodian, Lao and Vietnamese armies completed a five-day disaster rescue exercise in Vientiane, Laos on Sept. 15.

Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of National Defence, Samdech Pichey Sena Tea Banh joined Lao President H.E. Thongloun Sisoulith, Lao Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence H.E. Gen. Chansamon Chanyalat, and Vietnamese Defence Minister H.E. Gen. Phan Van Giang in the closing ceremony of the military drill.

The rescue exercise by three countries’ governments and armed forces has given priority to preventing and responding to threats by natural disasters and climate change-related issues, for examples flooding, storm, tsunami, earthquake, landslide, drought and others, said Lao News Agency KPL.

It aims to build capacity and expertise in responding to natural disasters in any circumstance, but also provides an opportunity for the three sides to step up experience and cultural exchanges, contributing to strengthening the solidarity and trust among them, it added.

It is the first drill organised under an agreement inked at a defence ministers’ meeting among the three countries in Hanoi, Vietnam in 2019, recalled the same source.
