Jarek Kutylowski, founder and CEO of the artificial intelligence (AI) language service DeepL, said Friday his company's new creative writing assistance service will be expanded to the Korean language, one of the fastest-growing languages in a time of AI-led digitalization. "The growth of the Korean market has exceeded our expectations," Kutylowski told reporters at a press conference held in Seoul. "Korea is a highly digitalized country with a lot of AI innovations and a lot of usage." DeepL, a Germany-based language AI company founded in 2017, provides instant translation-as-a-service both to businesses and to individuals. Its translation service supports 32 languages, including English, German and Chinese. It launched the Korean service of its AI translator application last year, with its paid, tailored service, DeepL Pro. This year, the company expanded its service to an AI writing assistant, releasing DeepL Write Pro, its first service powered by a large language model (LLM). DeepL Write Pro, which currently offers English and German, allows its users to have efficient communication based on writing by reflecting personalized or different corporations' style. Kutylowski said his company has custom-trained its self-developed LLM for translation and writing to provide a service with better accuracy and reliability than LLM models that provide more general solutions, such as Open AI's Chat GPT. He said the Korean language will be added soon to the writing assistant service along with a bunch of other languages but did not give a detailed schedule.
