Abu Dhabi:During a meeting, Samdech Maha Rathsapheathika Thipadei Khuon Sudary, President of the National Assembly of Cambodia, and H.E. Le Minh Hung, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, pledged to strengthen the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between their countries. The focus is on enhancing parliamentary exchanges, economic collaboration, connectivity, and people-to-people relations.
According to Agence Kampuchea Presse, Samdech Khuon Sudary expressed gratitude for the hospitality shown to the Cambodian National Assembly delegation during their visit to Vietnam in July 2026, highlighting the enduring relationship between the two nations. She emphasized the importance of the Prime Minister's visit, which reinforced their commitment to "Good Neighbourliness, Traditional Friendship, Comprehensive Cooperation and Long-Term Stability."
During the discussions, Samdech Khuon Sudary congratulated Vietnam on its socio-economic progress and international standing, expressing optimism about its future development. She also praised the outcomes of discussions between Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Thipadei Hun Manet and H.E. Le Minh Hung, noting the signing of six cooperation documents in key areas such as drug treatment, education, and trade.
The National Assembly President stressed the need to expand economic and trade relations, aiming for a bilateral trade target of US$20 billion. She underscored the importance of infrastructure connectivity, economic integration, and security cooperation.
Furthermore, Samdech Khuon Sudary highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in addressing complex geopolitical challenges and promoting mutual understanding. She advocated for regular exchanges between the two National Assemblies to support bilateral cooperation.
On regional and international matters, both sides reaffirmed their support for ASEAN centrality and a rules-based regional architecture. They emphasized the significance of parliamentary diplomacy in fostering peace and sustainable development.
H.E. Le Minh Hung, during his visit to Cambodia, expressed appreciation for the warm reception and congratulated Cambodia on its achievements under its current leadership. He highlighted the importance of strengthening government cooperation in areas like security, trade, and energy.
The leaders committed to organizing activities to commemorate the 60th anniversary of Cambodia-Viet Nam diplomatic relations in 2027, aiming to further strengthen ties between their peoples. They also emphasized the need for continued high-level exchanges to deepen cooperation across various sectors, benefitting both nations and contributing to regional stability and prosperity.
