The Bank of Korea said Monday it had sold a net US$5.8 billion in the second quarter of the year amid the weakening of the Korean won against the U.S. dollar.
The second-quarter dollar selling, the largest since the second quarter of last year, marks a jump from the previous quarter’s net selling of $1.8 billion.
In the fourth quarter of last year, the central bank purchased a net $1.98 billion, which marked the first in three years to snap the nine straight quarters of dollar selling for market-smoothing operations since the third quarter of 2021.
